Results for Cranksgiving and more giving…

Saturday’s Cranksgiving Alleycat was awesome! After announcing his move to PA , Tone passed the torch to Ken to organize the annual charity race, and Ken pulled it off well with a befuddling manifest and some great prizes. Nearly 100 riders showed up. Get all the juicy details from Courtney and Sara, a triathlete/spin students who came out for the ride.

Cranksgiving is the only annual alleycat for charity. With the exception of the occasional alleycat to benefit a fallen messenger or the NYBMA emergency fund, most races raise just enough to cover costs. Until now. Our teammate Crihs has decided to throw a Toys for Tots race on Dec 22nd with one ghetto-a** flyer!
It’s a great idea, and I hope to see everyone there. Maybe this will be the start of another annual charity race in NYC!

STOLEN !!!!

so today my point and shoot camera was stolen.

-canon silver point and shoot 510

-zoom lens (4x)

-strap

-256kb memory card

wasnt locked =(

haha but really it was stolen. some asshole decided to ask me if i was okay and then walked off with my camera as i was arguing with another asshole who cut me off, which led to me going head over heels. so today while i was working, going down bway, I get to 26 and i see this benz pull up to this parking lot. i was moving along with traffic when he decides to adjust and pull out without looking if anyone was in the bike lane, forcing me to avoid him which then led me to get pinned between a cab. my handlebars got tangled and came towards me which then stopped my bike in a instant. next thing you know i was on the ground, cam and cell as well. bike seat and handle bars twisted i get up and was seconds away to throwing my U through his window then i thought about getting arrested for the samething a month back so i decided to call the cops. in the between me arguing with dude, i see this walker walk up to me and ask me if im alright then walk away. i guess as he was walking away he saw my cam and walked off with it. if i see u on the st. you better hope u dont have dat camera on you.

cops came, dude was gone. filed a report, dropped two packages and then took the rest of the day off. f-ing dickhead drivers.

IF YOU SEE A SILVER BENZ with plates ISIAH54 delaware. break his mirror for me or at least let me know and ill do it …..

Also,  Saturday is the ninth annual Cranksgiving race where we buy food at checkpoints to distribute to the cities poor and needy. This is the first time in the history of this NY race that my ex-coworker Tone has not done it but our very own Ken Stanek has taken up the torch to what looks to be another amazing race… I’m still a little heartbroken over my near win by seconds last year to Yatika so I’m in it to win it this year.

notes from the underground…. or, babies are cute.

La FamiliaWell as Dan just posted… a few of us were involved in a shoot over at the Bolger residence, which by the by I’m drooling green with envy for their amazing home, where hopefully we will be made into a deck of cards. I just received the group pic (attached above) with the most adorable baby I’ve seen in years. Little Kieran Wolf is beautiful. I am extremely happy for the three of them on the beginning of an amazing life as a family. Both Squid and Amy have shown already a lot of parenting skills in dealing with the knuckle  heads in our little family that I know.

Also, yay…. first blog on. Had a little trouble with signing in but thanks to Andrew, our amazing webmansuperdeluxe, the problem was alleviated.

Mash premiere alleycat & movie

Probably the most anticipated track bike movie over made, the East Coast M.A.S.H premiere was finally here.

Some SF dudes made the trip for the premiere. this was awesome, because i wanna to see how they rode in NYC traffic.

The alleycat started at the polo courts (broome & chrystie/forsyth). With a good turn out in hand, i was siked to race because of the talent that had came out to participate. The likes of austin, yatika, dan and newcomer raf negron to name a few. After a delay waiting for a racer, race started just as quick as they said go, about 30+ racers were off !

first check point was Tompkins sqr. park, so i was the only one to hit essex/ave A. i got slowed down at houston st because i did not have the light. As this happened i saw the lead pack making the left onto Avenue A from houston. I knew i had to catch out quick if i wanted to be in contention. I got to the checkpoint and caught up to austin as he slipped and partially fell exiting Tompkins. Garret (mash) was with us as we raced up 1st. avenue and caught the rest of the pack. 2nd checkpoint being 52nd n 6th, we made da left on 23rd and headed up six. i followed dan wrong way up bway, to 24th to see austin and raf fly by going up six. With a half block lead, i lost the lead group in 6th ave traffic and i had to catch up. not really thinking, i went to 53 and 6th before i saw 2nd group (yatica & co.) roll in. 1st one out, i went down 52 and wrong way’d it up 7th to 55 and then wrong it up bway to the circle. thinking this over, i should of headed up six into the park all the way to lenox and 110. but instead i took Central park west all the way up. Fearing i was a good 5min back, i stepped on it to make some ground on dan raf doug n austin which would crash before heading to the upper west side CP’s. i hit lenox n 110 instead of skate park at 108 (in riverside) like the rest. i met up with doug along the way and went up riverside drive to 79 round-about. got on the highway and never looked back. bumper to bumper traffic def helped. doug sporting a da capability to coast took off on me about 57 ramp where the highway goes down to st level. with a 2-3 block lead i tried catching a skitch which was succesful for about ten blocks, but the mother driving the car politely asked if i could get of so i did. hahahaaa. doug nowhere in site i just tried to mantain good speed. at about canal raf rolls past me with some speed cruisin. i tried to catch up and maintained the fast pace he set in the middle lanes. making a pre-mature turn of the highway on barclay(i believe) and i made the turn on albany after all da WTC construction and ped traffic. hitting the CP 2nd and seconds ahead of raf i took off up exchange place, threw new and up broad st to wall. wall to water were i saw dan sprinting about 3 blocks behind me with raf right behind him. i was trying to lose, so i got off the saddle. rright at the Brooklyn bridge, i got jammed by a van and raf passed me but overshot the entrance. since i knew were i was goin i took second, luckily !

won some needed money (2 cash. $100 2nd nd $100 1st track), gshock and some kicks. swt !

me cash

good job DOUG (1st)

doug (1st)

2. crihs, 3. dan, 4. raf negron, 5. andrew n 6. yatika

Winter’s here, Training ensues…

So winter’s here and I’m finally ready to get back on the bike again. Time to hit the gym at least 3 times a week and get back to riding 4 times a week. Spinning is the name of the game at this point. I’ve spent enough time off the bike for the past month, not completely of course, but enough to reinvigorate my spirit for next season. 3 1/2 more months till MONSTERTRACK 9, need to get fit. Hope it’s not wet again. I fuckin’ hated that shite. SPIN SPIN SPIN GYM GYM GYM, and the occasional party and show of course.

Messenger Card Deck & La Bruja TopTen

So while at interbike Squid got drunk with a bunch of heads from Chrome Bags and they came up with the idea of a making a bike messenger card deck to the benefit the BMA’s of four cities. The cities are New York, San Francisco, Portland and Chicago. Each city will have thirteen messengers pictured on the various cards and each city will have its own suit. I hear NYC has dibs on spades…
Rumor has it Chrome will make five thousand decks and they are going to sell for ten bucks a deck.

While I was at the photo shoot I managed to finagle the top ten finishers for the 13th annual Halloween race from Victor. Times were a bit sketchy so I wont include them. But here is the top ten with a few of my personal comments.

NYC 13th Annual Halloween Race

1st Dan Chabanov *Edged Felipe for the win in the last few blocks.
2nd Felipe The King *Caught a massive skitch over the Williamsburg Bridge to put him self back in contention.
3rd Andrew Toews *Don’t sleep on this guy. Third 3rd place finish in a row for him.
4th Ralph N. *Was in the lead after the bridge but got lost in Brooklyn.
5th Chris Cali
6th Yatica
7th Brantley
8th Dominican Chris
9th Cooper *Heard this kid was like 15?!?

Another Halloween Race come and gone. Till next year you ghouls.

The next race in NYC is yet another classic. So don’t miss Cranksgiving on Nov 17th.

More details soon.

La Bruja

The Halloween weekend in NYC is always epic and 2007 was no exception. Whatever your in the mood for its happening here. Want to race bikes that go no where? Well Friday night was your chance. Chris Kim provided the bikes and the fastest legs in this city went at it. Corry the Courier vs. Felipe the King… Watching people ride nowhere was never this exiting. In the end Felipe was still the king. But Crihs still managed to crash a bike that wasn’t moving. Which in it self is somewhat of an accomplishment. The night finished off with the awards ceremony for the longest and toughest race series New York City has ever seen. Five races in five boroughs. Team Six took the top two spots in the GQ with Dan C. taking the title and Crihs holding it down in second. Crihs and Dan teamed up in Queens with Crihs taking home the yellow jersey for that race and then Pablo joined the squad in Brooklyn along with Kyle from DQM and Andrew Toews to win the team completion by one point. Kym joined the leftovers to hold down second place team in Brooklyn. The sprinters crown also went to Dan C with Pablo grabbing second place sprinter with only doing three out of five races. I cold go on forever. This series took five months there are just too many highlights(Kym finishing Broadway Bombing with a bloody hand to just nab 1st place away from Heidi).
Saturday, people could ether race their hearts out in the 13th annual Halloween race or drink and destroy at the 5th annual Black Label Bike Kill block party. About thirty people came out to Fort Green Park in Brooklyn under rainy sky’s to contest the race. About 300 people came out to Bike Kill a few blocks north to drink and break things. Around four the racers took off. Racing too ten different checkpoints spread out over Manhattan and Brooklyn as far north as One Hundred and Seventh St. and FDR and as far south as Seven Hanover Sq. Felipe, Rafael Negron, Dan C, and Andrew Toews raced to the Brooklyn Bridge to hit Seven Hanover sq first. After hitting two more checkpoints on the lower east side, the four being trailed by Lucas Brunnelle(http://www.digave.com/videos/) skidded in to Continuum Cycles to get their manifest stamped by Jeff. Then it was a nightly four block drag race to One Hundred Seven St and the FDR. After Twenty Three miles Dan C out sprinted Felipe the King in the last few blocks to arrive at Bike Kill first.
Sunday everyone got to relax and sleep in late.
